Sun City Hilton Head completes renovation of Argent Lakes course

Sun City Hilton Head, an active adult community in Bluffton, South Carolina, has completed a four-month renovation project on its Argent Lakes course, a par-61 ‘executive’ layout.

The project, which started in June, focused on enhancing the beauty and playability of the course. Work was overseen by both Rick Barnes, director of agronomy at Sun City Hilton Head, and Ron Despain, senior vice president of golf course development at course operator Troon.

Construction firm TDI Golf reshaped, regraded and rebuilt the bunkers, lining them the Capillary Concrete system and filling them with Tour Angle sand from South Carolina.

The project also saw more than 130 trees – including oak, pine, palm and magnolia – planted across the course.

“We’re thrilled with the way the Argent Lakes course enhancements turned out,” said Charlie Kent, director of golf at Sun City Hilton Head, which has three eighteen-hole courses. “The planting of additional trees will help better define holes and the new bunkers are gorgeous and consistent. The shorter Argent Lakes course has always been a favourite among our members and guests. With the recent renovations now complete, we expect that trend will continue.”
