Tamarack reopens following Golden Age-inspired renovation

Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich, Connecticut, has reopened its golf course following a renovation by Brian Schneider of Renaissance Golf Design.

In a nine-month project, the architect has focused on restoring the layout’s Golden Age style, as designed by Charles Banks in 1929. He referenced historic aerial photographs and other materials to restore features to Banks’ original specifications.

The project included restoring green surrounds, removing non-original bunkers, introducing new bunkers, rebuilding tee complexes, adding new tees, adding berms and mounding, and executing a tree management programme to open sightlines as well as to improve turf quality and playability.

“I am deeply grateful to the club for the opportunity to restore the drama of Charles Banks’ work and for their gracious hospitality throughout this wonderful project,” said Schneider.

“With Brian Schneider’s masterplan of renovations completed, the stature of our award-winning golf course will continue to grow, and our members will enjoy a truly spectacular test of golf,” said club president Chris Thompson.
