The October 2020 issue of Golf Course Architecture is out now!

The October 2020 issue of Golf Course Architecture magazine is out now in both printed and digital formats.

The cover of this latest issue features the closing green of Fox Chapel GC in Pittsburgh, photographed by Russell Kirk. Fazio Design has recently completed a restoration of the Seth Raynor course, and we speak with lead architect Tom Marzolf to find out more.

Also in this issue we ask how best to approach golf and residential developments. Golf course architects including Bill Coore, Robert Trent Jones Jr, Jay Blasi, Colton Craig, Jason Straka, Howard Swan, Gary Johnston and Kevin Ramsey provide insight into for the key considerations for golf and housing projects.

There is news of the new Kyle Phillips-designed PGA National Czech Republic course near Prague; Caspar Grauballe talks about the renovation he is overseeing at Djursholm Golf Club in Sweden; and we examine the routing for Zac Blair’s Buck Club project with King-Collins.

We also have an On Site report from Vaughn Halyard, who visited Forest Dunes in Michigan, where a new 10-hole par-three course – designed by Riley Johns and Keith Rhebb – has just opened, joining the resort’s original Forest Dunes course designed by Tom Weiskopf and The Loop, the reversible layout created by Tom Doak.

Elsewhere, we profile Columbine Country Club in Denver, which is looking for a return to its former glories as a major championship venue following a renovation by Rees Jones; and Connor Lewis examines previous debates about technology in golf and asks what we can learn from them.

We also have insight pieces from Mark Ganning of Hunter Industries, who explains how Lincoln GC went about the process of installing a new irrigation system; Tiffany Koss of Kafka Granite, who describes the partnership between two Wisconsin golf businesses; Paul Chester of Huxley Golf, who explains how a well-designed short course can boost income; and Pablo Muñoz Vega of Surtec Golf Agronomy, who highlights the importance of an irrigation audit.

There’s plenty more too – enjoy the issue!
