Tripp Davis completes renovation of Oak Tree National course

The Tripp Davis and Associates design firm has completed a renovation of the Oak Tree National course ahead of the 2014 US Senior Open, which takes place next month.

Originally designed by Pete Dye, Oak Tree National is located in Edmond, Oklahoma, and opened in 1976. Dye carried out a redesign of the course in 2002.

Davis and his team have restored elements of the course to their original form, while adding a few enhancements to accommodate for the modern game.

“The golf course at Oak Tree National went through a variety of design changes over the years since Pete first designed it,” said Davis. “We were brought in to regain the best of its original Pete Dye character and we think the pros will be very pleased with the final outcome.”

The course’s tees and bunkers were rebuilt and strategically restored as part of the project.

“The greens and greens surrounds were what made Oak Tree so strategic and we like what we recaptured,” commented Davis. “It can still be the toughest course in the country, but it is very strategic and option oriented.”

Davis’ project team included Oak Tree National club owner Everett Dobson and project shaper Bill ‘Hollywood’ Willingham, as well as pro golfers Scott Verplank, Bob Tway and Willie Wood, all of whom count Oak Tree National as their home course.

The 2014 US Senior Open will be the second USGA Championship to be played at Oak Tree National and takes place from 7-13 July 2014.
