University of New Mexico North course reopens following renovation work
The North Course at the University of New Mexico has reopened for play following a two-month renovation project.
Work was carried out by the Sites Southwest Albuquerque office with the consultation work of Staples Golf at the William H. Tucker-designed course, which is part of Bernalillo County Open Space Program.
The County has contributed US$1.5 million to the project, which has seen the overhaul of the irrigation system and improved landscaping. New trees have also been added to the course while existing ones have been trimmed back. It is hoped that the irrigation project will save millions of gallons of water annually. Work is ongoing to the walking trails around the course, which are popular with members of the local community.
“I am very proud of the partnership between the Bernalillo County Commission and UNM that made this possible. These improvements preserve our beautiful open space and make it more accessible, more beautiful, and more environmentally responsible,” said commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins. “I'm particularly excited about the water conservation benefits which will have an impact on our entire community."
