Vasatorps in construction with three new holes designed by Johan Benestam

Vasatorps Golfklubb in Helsingborg, Sweden, is in construction on three new holes designed by Johan Benestam on its to expand its Allébanan course to 12 holes.

The project also involves the redesign of one of the existing holes on the nine, as well as the expansion of the club’s practice areas. Work is expected to be completed and open to members by summer 2022. The club will then have a broad range of golfing options: two eighteen-hole courses, the new twelve-hole course, a nine-hole course and new practice facilities. Pelle Sättare, club secretary at Vasatorps, said the change in design is to “develop our facility and add a completely new dimension to our offer”, giving members the opportunity for a 12-hole round with a kiosk break after six. “We first identified critical success factors and then left it to Benestam to find the right placement and design of the new holes.”

The expansion to Vasatorps’ practice facility has involved a redesign of its closing hole to make space for a new 1,200-square-metre putting green and 1,000-square-metre practice green, featuring large practice bunkers of varying depths. Multiple surfaces have been integrated into the short game area to give players the opportunity to practice for a variety of lines experienced on different courses.

Work has also been done to preserve water. “An environmental improvement measure in connection with the construction was to create a larger infiltration dam,” said Benestam. Excess water is diverted to the irrigation pond, from which it is used to irrigate the entire course. “This is part of the golf club’s environmental work for a more sustainable facility.”
