West Course at Yokohama Country Club reopens following renovations

The West Course at Yokohama Country Club in Japan has reopened following a two-year renovation project.

Led by Coore & Crenshaw, the project saw the rebuilding of a number of tees and greens across the course, as well having a focus on creating interesting corridors throughout the 18-holes.

Changes have been made to the course’s routing. What was formerly the 600-yard 18th hole has been reworked and will now be the par-four eighth hole and par-three ninth hole. The site of the former 13th and 14th holes will now be home to the new fourth hole.

Coore & Crenshaw design associate Toby Cobb oversaw much of the work as the project’s construction manager, working alongside Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw to ensure the project’s vision was realised.

A number of the firm’s associates oversaw various elements of the project, including Trevor Dormer, James Duncan, Keith Rhebb, and Quinn Thompson, as well as Rob Collins of King-Collins.

Both the East and West courses at Yokohama CC were originally designed by Takeo Aiyama in the 1960s. The club will host the Japan Open in 2018.
