Wyoming’s Snake River course reopens after five-year closure
The course at Snake River Sporting Club in Jackson Hole,Wyoming, has reopened to the public following a five-year closure.
The 7,500-yard course runs alongside the eponymous Snake River and borders the Bridger-Teton National Forest.
Snake River’s course was originally designed by Tom Weiskopf and opened in 2007. The architect was invited back to oversee a US$5 million course renovation project, which saw every green being replaced with bentgrass and the restoration of the course’s bunkers.
The club’s practice facilities also saw improvements, with a newly contoured putting and chipping green forming part of the project.
Weiskopf also designed a new 3,500 sq ft short game practice green beside the Snake River clubhouse and first tee. This green can be played as a par-three from the first tee.
“With its beautiful setting overlooking the Snake River, this is one of my favourite courses I have had the opportunity to design,” said Weiskopf. “The practice amenities will certainly provide members a great place to work on their short game and bunker play in a quiet setting.”
