Waynesville Inn & Golf Club appoints Bobby Weed to develop master plan

The 27-hole Waynesville Inn & Golf Club in North Carolina has appointed Bobby Weed to develop a master plan of golf course renovations.

Situated near the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the club is set to celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2026. Its Carolina nine was designed by Donald Ross in 1926, the Dogwood nine was added in 1929 and the Blue Ridge nine was completed by Tom Jackson in 1986.

Weed will reduce the number of holes from 27 to 18 and consider the option of a new short course and Himalayas-style putting green in the available space. At the practice facility, teeing grounds will be enlarged and new target greens will be added.

Weed’s plans include a hole-by-hole analysis and a long-term sustainability strategy. Construction is expected to begin this summer and is set to finish within 16 to 24 months.

“My wife Leslie has generational family ties in Waynesville that date back over 100 years,” said Weed. “As long-time area residents, we sincerely thank Grey Raines and David Tart of Raines for allowing our team to modernise this revered western North Carolina layout.”

“With deep roots in the Carolinas and 40-plus years of experience, we have entrusted Bobby Weed Golf Design to direct our golf course restoration,” said Grey Raines, managing partner of hospitality company Raines. “Bobby has pledged to be on site to lead our promising road ahead, and for that we are most grateful.”
