Colligan Golf Design leads restoration work at Squaw Creek GC

Colligan Golf Design is leading a restoration project at the Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park, Texas.

Originally designed by Ralph Plummer, a US$2.75 million project to bring the course back up to its original glory has been given the go ahead.

The firm’s John Colligan and Trey Kemp are leading the project, and are renovated every tee on the course to help increase its length where possible.

“I was introduced to Squaw Creek in 1983 by a neighbour and played there at least once a week for many years,” said John Colligan. “Mr Plummer did a great job routing the course on a unique piece of property and it is truly an honour to have the opportunity to breathe new life into this great layout.”

More forward tees are to be introduced to help accommodate every level of play, while fairways will be reworked to help hold more shots and improve drainage. This includes the conversion of the grasses to 419 bermudagrass, and the introduction of a new irrigation system.

The course’s greens and their surrounds have been redesigned and reshaped, while green sizes have also been increased.

Work is also taking place on the bunkering, with the Better Billy Bunker liner being introduced and their aesthetic quality heightened.

Colligan Golf Design has also created a new driving range and short game practice facility at the club, both of which opened in 2015.
