Luxury hospitality group Galgorm Collection has reportedly approached Tiger Woods and TGR Design to design Bellarena, the first championship links course to be built in Northern Ireland in more than a century.

The news was revealed to Coleraine Chronicle by a Causeway Coast and Glens councillor who said: “We received a briefing and it was confirmed to us that Tiger Woods has been signed up to design the course at Bellarena.” The appointment has yet to be confirmed by either Galgorm Collection or Woods’ TGR Design, but would mark the first golf course Woods has designed in Ireland or Europe.

The £30 million Bellarena course will be built on a coastal site between Portrush and Limavady and is expected to open in 2029. In addition to an 18-hole course, the facility will have a driving range, practice areas, a clubhouse and eight golf lodges.

Bellarena is part of a £65 million investment to transform the northwest of Northern Ireland into a world-class golf destination.
