Construction of Hemstock-designed Kovai Hills course completed in India

Construction of a new 27-hole golf complex at the Kovai Hills Golf and Country Club in India has been completed.

Situated in a picturesque landscape near the city of Coimbatore, the course is located in the Coimbatore-Plakkad corridor, a low mountain pass separating the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The golf complex is comprised of an eighteen-hole championship course – designed by British golf course architect David Hemstock – a nine-hole course, and one of the first golf academies in India.

The championship course plays 7,050 yards and is a par 72. The greens, fairways and rough all use Sea Spray Paspalum.

The site is conducive to windy conditions due to the location between mountains, and often pick up later in the day.

The Kovai Hills Golf Academy is led by Cmd. Gangadhar, a graduate of the Golf Academy of America. The academy gives players the chance to use the latest software to help improve their game, including V1 golf swing analysis and the Zelocity Pure Contact Golf Performance Monitor, as well as using the nine-hole short course on the site.

The nine-hole course is operational and open for play, with the eighteen-hole championship course to be formally opened in early 2014.
