Jerry Pate Design to lead renovation at The Preserve Golf Club
Jerry Pate Design is leading a renovation project at The Preserve Golf Club in Vancleave, Mississippi.
The course will close on 5 May and is scheduled to reopen in September.
The club’s director of operations Stephen Miles spoke to GCA about the upcoming project.
“The main focus of this project is to core out and rebuild our greens,” said Miles. “This project became necessary to correct several underlying issues related to infrastructure that have resulted in inconsistent playing conditions. While we are rebuilding our greens we will make subtle changes to the surfaces to correct any persistent agronomic issues and to accommodate our conversion from Tifdwarf to Tifeagle.”
Jerry Pate originally designed the 18-hole course, which lies adjacent to an eighteen hundred acre nature preserve. The Preserve is one of a number Pate-designed courses in Mississippi, with others including Canebrake Golf Club at Hattiesburg, Old Waverly Golf Club at West Point, and the Azaleas and Oaks courses at Dancing Rabbit in Philadelphia.
“We will also take this opportunity to add a few bunkers in strategic places around the course and replace the liner and sand in our old bunkers,” added Miles. “There will also be numerous other projects taking place during this time to improve the playability of the course throughout the year.”
