John Fought orchestrates renovation work at Windsong Farm
Architect John Fought is leading a renovation of the course at Windsong Farm Golf Club near Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Fought worked alongside Tom Lehman on the original design and development of Windsong Farm, which opened for play back in 2003.
One major element of the current work is the redesign of the par-five twelfth hole. Renovations will also be made to all the bunkers, and 14 new tee boxes will be put in place.
Native grasses will be introduced to help minimise irrigation, and the course will also be lengthened by 200 yards to a total of 7,550 yards from the back tees.
“Essentially, we’re going to finish the golf course from its original construction, and complete some of the things the original developer was unable to do,” said Scottie Hines, golf course superintendent at Windsong Farm Golf Club. “John has always had his finger on the pulse of our course and works side-by-side with our management team. After a successful playing career, John has dedicated himself to the art of golf course design and architecture. These reasons made the decision to name him lead architect an easy choice for Windsong Farm.”
The course will remain open during the renovation work, which got underway in early August and is scheduled for completion in November 2015.
“I have always loved this golf course, and I’m honoured the Windsong team selected me to head up the renovations,” said Fought. “It’s an exciting time for golf in Minnesota from the work we’ll be doing here to when the Ryder Cup comes to the state next year.”
