Major project gets underway at Hilo Municipal Golf Course
A groundbreaking ceremony has taken place at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course in Hilo, Hawaii as a club-wide renovation project gets underway.
Work will include the rebuilding of four greens, improvements to the course’s landscaping and the introduction of an irrigation system.
The biggest changes may be felt off the course however, as a new clubhouse will be built to replace the course’s existing facility.
Contractors Jacobsen Construction will carry out the project, which will also include a new cart storage building, rain shelters, comfort stations and maintenance building.
The majority of the 18-hole course – which was originally designed by architect Willard Wilkinson and opened in 1951 – will remain open for play during the work in order to minimise disruption to golfers.
A modified nine-hole course will be in place between February and May next year to allow for construction work to be carried out.
The project is set to be completed by November 2016.
