Kris Spence Golf Design completes greens project at Tidewater Golf Club
Kris Spence Golf Design has completed a project to restore the greens at South Carolina’s Tidewater Golf Club.
New Miniverde bermudagrass has been installed at the course in Myrtle Beach as part of a wider course enhancement project.
Studies were also carried out on the drainage of each putting surface, with a company hired to carry out soil analysis. The results have been used to improve drainage and create a new,custom soil profile, ensuring the greens have optimal conditions going forward.
In addition to the green enhancements, the fairway on the par five eighth hole was lengthened by 60 yards, bringing it much closer to the tee boxes. Sections of fairway were also widened on holes 16 and 18.
All greens were restored to their original sizes, and three and half acres of turf was laid outside the course’s playable areas.
The course at Tidewater was designed by Ken Tomlinson and opened in 1990.
“We are extremely excited,” said Archie Lemon, Tidewater’s general manager. “At Tidewater, we have a beautiful layout; it's second to none. Now our greens are back up to the standard we want them to be.”
