New 27-hole facility to open in New Mexico later this year

A new 27-hole municipal golf facility in Hobbs, New Mexico, will open for play later this year.

Set to open this May, Rockwind Community Links will include a championship 18-hole course and nine-hole par three course, as well as a practice facility and shot game practice area.

The facility’s courses has been designed by Andy Staples of the Staples Golf Design firm, and will be an official First Tee site. First Tee is a youth organisation that promotes life skills and leadership through the game of golf.

The facility’s main course will play 7,100 yards from the back tees and includes elevated greens, coffin bunkers and rock walls.

“On behalf of the City of Hobbs, we are pleased to announce that the new Rockwind Community Links will soon open for the enjoyment of our city residents and golfers from throughout the region and across the country,” said J.J. Murphy, Hobbs city manager. “We are the first ‘community links’ project in the US and we will show that golf facilities can do more than just attract golf enthusiasts.”
