New ‘The Alps’ putting green for Golfpark Holzhäusern in Switzerland
A new practice green has opened for play at Golfpark Holzhäusern in central Switzerland.
Co-designed by Steiner & Partner and (re)GOLF and named ‘The Alps’, the new green has been inspired by the famous Himalayas putting course at St Andrews in Scotland.
Measuring 1,150 square metres, the new green has been designed to accommodate putting competitions as well as offering a relaxing, fun place for visitors of all ages to play.
“It’s not nearly as big as the Himalayas at St Andrews but it’s big enough to design in some interesting slopes,” said David Bily, co-design architect for the project. “It’s great fun!”
“This is our third such putting course design and our client’s experiences to date have been very positive,” said Paul O’Brien of (re)GOLF. “The buzz that they create around and close to the clubhouse is infectious!”
Steiner & Partner have led a number of projects at Golfpark Holzhäusern since 2008. Erich Steiner of the firm believes the new putting green provides a great option for golfers who may only have a short window of time in which to play.
“People don’t always have four or five hours to play a full round of golf,” he said. “The Alps, which was designed into the masterplan renovation at Holzhäusern from the start, is at the heart of this theme.”
Steiner and Partner are also currently developing a new driving range and academy, at Golfpark Holzhäusern, both of which are currently under construction. The firm is also converting a six hole short course into a nine hole par three course.
