New-look Wike Ridge is open

The new-look Wike Ridge course at the Leeds Golf Centre in northern England has opened after a 15 month redevelopment.

Architect Jonathan Gaunt has built eleven new tee complexes, two new greens, 46 bunkers and improved drainage in landing areas and green approaches as part of a £2 million project to enhance the centre's facilities. Five new water features create an unbroken ribbon of water in the valley to separate the front nine holes from the back nine.

Gaunt has also revamped the course's home hole by building a large pond in front of the green, which sits in front of the remodelled clubhouse and restaurant. He said: “Our brave and ambitious redevelopment plan, which includes strategic design improvements to lakes, bunkers, tees and greens, together with numerous aesthetic enhancements in the form of native woodland planting, will add new challenges and appeal to all golfers for many years to come.”

Opened in 1993, the Wike Ridge layout was originally designed by Donald Steel.
