Second phase for Bonnie Doon reno

Australian design firm Ogilvy Clayton is about to start the second phase of its extensive rebuilding programme at the Bonnie Doon club in Sydney.

The works will see the eighth, eleventh and sixteenth holes given a substantial facelift. Both the eight and sixteenth will be short par fours, measuring less than 300 metres, and occupying some of the course's best land.

Stage one of the 115-year-old club's renovation was completed in May 2012, with five redesigned and two completely new holes open for play and the addition of a new practice range and short game practice area.

The club has also hired a new golf course superintendent, Sydney native Justin Bradbury, who is returning to his home city and country after five years in the United States. Bradbury served as assistant superintendent at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, his tenure taking in the club's hosting of the 2011 US Open, which was won by Rory McIlroy. Most recently, he served as assistant superintendent at New York's Scarsdale Golf Club.
