Old Overton Club reopens following Jerry Pate renovation

The golf course at Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, has reopened for play following a three-month renovation overseen by Jerry Pate Design.

The 18-hole layout, originally designed by Jerry Pate and Tom Fazio, opened in 1993 and has seen little change in the intervening years.

Pate’s work this year focused on tees, bunkers and greens. Every green, including the practice green, has been rebuilt and resurfaced with TifEagle Bermuda grass. All bunkers have been rebuilt using Better Billy Bunker lining. Tee boxes have been levelled and re-grassed with TifGrand Bermuda.

Southeastern Golf began construction in mid-June and completed work in early September.

“It has been a long and exciting three months for the Old Overton agronomy team,” said Bruce Hospes, the club’s director of agronomy. “The timeline for all of the changes was very aggressive, but the end result is fantastic. The golf course looks and plays incredible.”
