Series of upgrades to be made to Harbour Town Golf Links at the Sea Pines Resort
A series of enhancements are to be made to the Harbour Town Golf Links course at the Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Originally designed by architect Pete Dye, the course will close for the summer on 4 May following this year’s RBC Heritage tournament, which runs from 14-20 April.
Work will include the replacing of the tee-boxes, fairways and rough with Celebration bermudagrass. Dye recently oversaw the regressing of the resort’s Heron Point course with Celebration bermuda.
The Harbour Town greens will be regrassed with Tif-Eagle Bermuda, and a new irrigation system will also be installed.
MacCurrach Golf Construction – the firm that worked alongside Dye during the 2001 restoration of the Harbour Town course – will return to lead the upgrade work.
“Our investment in improving Harbour Town insures it will remain as one of the world’s premier layouts,” said Cary Corbitt, vice president of Sports and Operations at the Sea Pines Resort. “The year-round playability of the course is going to be greatly enhanced and enjoyed by PGA Tour players, our members, property owners and resort guests.”
The course is likely to reopen for play in September 2015.
