Tee rebuilding at Mannings Heath

UK firm Exclusive Hotels, the owner of Mannings Heath Golf Club in Sussex is investing more that £100,000 in an extensive tee remodelling programme.

Mannings Heath’s Waterfall course, which dates back to 1905, and was originally designed by Harry Colt, is getting thirteen new sets of tees – 52 tee boxes in all – which will be ready for play in spring 2011.

The twelve week construction programme got underway in September and has been designed to minimise disruption for members and guests. Exclusive’s team used consultancy advice from the Sports Turf Research Institute. Steve Slinger, Exclusive’s golf manager, said: “Consulting with STRI was vitally important. We have a hundred year old course here and we were mindful that we wanted the new tees to blend in with the historic layout whilst creating modern day hard wearing tee boxes.”

The 6,683 yard Waterfall course has been selected to stage the 2013 English Women’s Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship and the club is hoping to be considered a possible venue for Open Championship pre-qualifying.
