Three-year redevelopment completed at Wexford

Jeff Howes Golf Design (JHGD) has completed its redevelopment project at Wexford Golf Club, Ireland, with the official launch planned for late September. The project included the design and construction of five new holes on recently acquired land, as well as a complete redesign of the existing 18-hole course.

The redevelopment work included all greens being converted to USGA sand-based greens, the introduction of strategic fairway bunkering, the implementation of a tees renovation programme and a major tree planting operation.

JHGD was first engaged in 2002 to prepare a new, customised routing for the club.

Construction commenced in 2004, with the three distinct phases of redevelopment allowing 18 holes of golf to remain in play at any time. "This milestone in the history of our club has been reached following three years of dedicated planning, work and commitment on the part of the development committee, members, contractors and Jeff Howes Golf Design. No words of mine can adequately express the gratitude and pride felt by all 1000 members of Wexford Golf Club at this time", said Nicky Lacey, captain of Wexford GC.

JHGD is also currently redeveloping Tramore Golf Club on Ireland's southeast coast.

The project involves the redesign of the existing 18 holes, including the introduction of USGA specification greens, new water features and new bunkering, as well as the addition of nine new holes. Irish contractor European Golf Services has been appointed to carry out the works.
