Work to remodel three holes at Manito Golf & Country Club begins
Work has commenced on a new project at the Manito Golf & Country Club in Spokane, Washington.
Golf course architect Jeff Mingay is overseeing the remodeling of the club’s fourth, fifth and sixth hole.
“Manito Golf & Country Club has a 2009 Master Plan that was done by John Harbottle,” Mingay told GCA. “Unfortunately, John passed away suddenly in May 2012. In fall 2016, I was introduced to the superintendent at Manito, Tim Ansett, by Kip Kalbrener of Ridgetop Golf – a contractor I worked with frequently in the Pacific Northwest. I visited the club and had a look at the course shortly thereafter. The club then officially hired me to conduct a ‘review’ of the Harbottle masterplan.”
Mingay has now completed his review, and the current work on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes has been billed as a pilot to help show the club’s membership what is possible moving forward.
“Manito is AV Macan’s third 18-hole design, following Royal Colwood in Victoria, British Colombia, and Inglewood near Seattle,” Mingay said. “The club is hopeful of completing a historically-inspired renovation of the entire golf course to celebrate its centennial in 2022.”
Mingay added that following the completion of the current project, the masterplan will likely be revisited with a view to planning for work on the rest of the course.
