Kurtis Bowman redesigns Links course at rebranded La Hacienda Alcaidesa

La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort in Cádiz, Spain, will reopen its Links course in June following a redesign by Texas-based golf course architect Kurtis Bowman.

The 36-hole resort, formerly known simply as Alcaidesa, has received a multi-million-euro investment led by Millenium Hospitality, a luxury hotel and real estate developer.

Bowman’s work on the Links course, a 1992 design by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and Rock of Gibraltar, introduces new greens and bunkers. The primary aims of the project included improving course conditions and to ensure sustainability is at the heart of operations at the resort.

“With new greens that are unique in Spain for their size and undulations, as well as new bunkering and strategic hazards throughout, the course is set to be a thrilling challenge for every level of golfer,” said Javier Illán, president of Millenium Hospitality. “A test, but great fun!”

Bowman said: “Every hole on a golf course should be like a chapter in a book. No two are alike and each tells a different part of the story.”

The next phase in Millenium’s investment at the resort is a new five-star hotel, 51 luxury villas and a beach club. “The project has come at a perfect time with the pent-up demand for golf vacations following the pandemic,” said Illán. “The tourism potential is huge in this region due to the accessibility to airports and its picturesque seaside location, all it needed was a high-quality modern hotel. We grabbed the opportunity with both hands!

“The golf course, hotel and dining facilities will complement the stunning real estate to truly transform La Hacienda into a benchmark for five-star tourism and catapult us into Europe’s elite golf resorts.”
