Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has selected Chris Wilczynski to develop a renovation masterplan.

The club was founded in 1977 with a golf course originally designed by Bill Newcomb. It has hosted several tournaments, including the LPGA Volvik Championship and numerous US Open qualifiers.

“With Travis Pointe’s 50th anniversary quickly approaching, we have the perfect opportunity to enhance the sustainability, playability and enjoyment of our number one asset – the golf course – for every level of golfer,” said board member Chris Fairman. “Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, and we are all eager to work together to make this club the best it can be for the foreseeable future.”

Wilczynski aims to complete his masterplan by the end of the summer and present it to the membership for their feedback and approval. He has been tasked with making the course more playable, fun and sustainable.

Specific design goals include developing new angles to create risk and reward shots, producing a new bunker design and aesthetic, simplifying and reorganising tees, creating a driveable par four of around 300 yards and making the club and course experience more seamless. He also aims to reduce costs related to labour, chemicals, water and equipment.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with the Travis Pointe masterplan committee and board of directors to develop the improvement plans for the golf course,” said Wilczynski. “I have also been a member at Travis Pointe since 2016 and have played the course countless times with my family and friends so I know the course intimately and have visualised many times how I would improve and enhance the architecture.”
