A new golf course at the Rancho San Lucas resort community near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is beginning to take shape.
A course masterplan has been created by Greg Norman Golf Course Design. The preliminary routing for the new 18-hole layout sees seven holes set in dunes on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, with views of the sea possible from seventeen holes.
The site’s terrain has been described as gently sloping and ‘creased by deep arroyos and canyons’ by Rancho San Lucas’s director of golf operations Brad Wheatley, who added that the site contains numerous cardon cactus and palo blanco trees.
Norman recently paid a visit to Rancho San Lucas, and discussed the plans for the course, including revegetation efforts. These will help conserve endemic flora and fauna and enhance the landscape’s natural features.
“What a magnificent piece of Mother Nature I have to work with,” Norman said. “Rancho San Lucas will be one incredible golf course within a truly unique development.”

The course is expected to open by late 2017.
