Eckenrode completes back nine of Quail Lodge and Golf Club

Golf course architecture firm Todd Eckenrode - Origins Golf Design has completed renovation work on the back nine holes at Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California.

The holes, which have recently re-opened for play, have a fresh new look and design complete with fully renovated tees, bunkers, fairway features, chipping areas and lakes.

According to golf course architect Todd Eckenrode, the new bunker collection features classic forms and natural styling. Many bunkers have also been placed in new strategic locations.

In addition, the course’s lakes have been completely reconstructed. Some have been removed altogether in place of drought tolerant California-friendly landscaping to reduce water demand. Others were converted into deep swales to accent the movement in the land. Eckenrode has highlighted hole 17 as a great example of this and said that it is sure to become a feature hole many will remember in the closing stretch.

The introduction of short-cut chipping areas around every green, meanwhile, is expected to greatly enhance the short game by increasing playability and variety of play.

“We are very proud of the results in the first half of an exciting renovation at Quail Lodge Golf Club. The team all came together to exceed our expectations in the work and craftsmanship,” said Eckenrode. “I am excited to present a much more interesting, strategic and varied golf experience for the members, and can’t wait to complete the other side.”

Work is now well underway on the front nine holes of the course.

“For those that have played the iconic Quail Lodge golf course in the past, you are in for a real treat when the major remodel is completed,” said Eckenrode.
