Tom Mackenzie named as new president of the EIGCA
Members of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA) have elected Tom Mackenzie as the organisation’s new president.
The ninth person to serve as the organisation’s president since its formation in 2000, Mackenzie took over from Peter Fjällman at last week’s EIGCA Annual Meeting in North Berwick, UK.
A partner in the Mackenzie & Ebert design firm, Mackenzie has served on the EIGCA Council for a number of years as chair of the EIGCA’s Environment Committee.
He has played an instrumental role in establishing the ‘Raising the Standard of Sustainable Golf Course Design’ programme. This major new initiative educates EIGCA members on sustainable golf course development and builds on the organisation’s ties with the Golf Environment Organisation.
Speaking at the EIGCA Annual Meeting, Mackenzie said: “It is a real privilege to be the new President of the EIGCA, but it won’t be easy to follow Peter Fjällman. I am delighted that Peter has agreed to stay on the Council for another year to continue the development of our new Five Year Plan.”
“I promise that, over the next two years, I will do all I can to continue to develop the professionalism of the EIGCA for the benefit of its members and the game of golf generally,” he added. “We have exciting plans for our future and I am looking forward to working with our Council and staff as we put these plans into action.”
