Gary Player’s firm to redesign Beijing’s Tianzhu Golf & Country Club course

Gary Player’s design firm has been selected to redesign the 27-hole course at the Tianzhu Golf & Country Club in Beijing, China.

The project’s investors Sanpower Group has selected Player’s firm with the aim of bringing the course to a standard where it can host international level tournaments in the future.

“We continue to see the great possibility and future of golf in China,” said Gary Player. “Our design firm has been very busy across Asia lately, and we are truly looking forward to our design at Tianzhu Golf & Country Club. Our client is looking to build a championship course, and I am confident that the end result will be a fantastic addition to further grow the game in Beijing.

Player has visited the Beijing site twice to begin the project’s planning stages. The project will see a complete overhaul of the existing routing.

“Our conceptual design at Tianzhu has allowed for us to achieve three nine-hole loops that are all championship length and quality,” said Scott Ferrell, Gary Player Design president. “Members and guests will be very pleasantly surprised with all of the improvements to be implemented.

The project will follow sustainable and environmentally friendly practices and will preserve and protect existing groups of trees across the course. Once complete, the site will also be home to a renovated clubhouse and conference centre, as well as luxury residencies.

“Tianzhu has an established membership, and it is our hope that the renovations to the course will continue to build upon the existing success with championship-level courses that stress playability for all members and guests,” said Ferrell.

The course will reopen in phases, with nine holes set to be completed later this year. The remaining 18 holes will open in 2015.
