Historic Keller Golf Course to reopen later this month

Keller Golf Course will reopen later this month following an extensive renovation project.

Owned by Ramsey County, Keller is a public golf course in Maplewood, Minnesota.

The course was designed by Paul Coates, a Ramsey County civil engineer, who reputedly used his personal vacation to visit some of America’s great golf courses, including Pinehurst, to learn the basics of course architecture. Keller opened in 1929 and closed in 2012 to allow for the recently-completed project to take place.

The course hosted the PGA Championships in 1932 and 1954, as well as the PGA Tour’s St. Paul Open from 1930 to 1968.

Following a masterplan drawn up by golf course architect Richard Mandell, upgrades have been made to the course’s greens, tees, bunkers, cart paths, drainage and irrigation systems.

The county has reportedly spent US$12.2 million to bring the club back up to scratch, with the renovation project just part of a wider project which included a new clubhouse and pro shop, as well as upgrades to the course’s driving range.

The club will host a series of events over the weekend of the 19-20 July to celebrate the reopening. Normal operations will begin at the course as of 20 July.
