Work underway on redesign of nine-hole course at Colwood Golf Center

Work has begun on the redesign of the nine-hole, par-3 course at the Colwood Golf Center in Portland, Oregon.

The course and 85 acres of surrounding natural area were purchased by Portland Parks & Recreation earlier this year, and the City of Portland’s golf manager John Zoller has drawn up plans for the course’s redesign.

Colwood is operated by golf course management company Kemper Sports, and speaking to GCA, Randy Morrison, general manager of the Colwood Golf Center said: “The new course will cater to the golfer and beginner alike, with various tees to choose from, as well as large greens which will have varying degrees of difficulty on different sections. This will allow for two simultaneous pin placements on each green so players can choose which pins they want to play.”

Construction work is underway, and a target date for the course’s reopening has been set as 1 April 2015. The Colwood Golf Center will still operate as a driving range and restaurant while work takes place.

“This is a unique property for several reasons, most notably that it's the only one of its kind within the City of Portland,” added Morrison. “It will serve as a location for several growing-the-game initiatives, as well as provide the community another place to recreate and enjoy the game.”
