Renovation work to get underway next month at Rockwood Golf Course

A renovation project is scheduled to get underway next month at the Rockwood Golf Course in Fort Worth, Texas.

Colligan Golf Design is leading the work, and GCA spoke to John Colligan from the firm to find out more about the project.

“Rockwood is a 1938 John Bredemus design along the banks of the Trinity River in Fort Worth,” Colligan said. “The course has been given very little attention over its almost 80 year history. The course is located in the Northside area of town which is within five minutes of the Central Business District.”

Colligan said that it is his intent to use the elements of Bredemus’ original design while at the same time addressing the changes that have taken place in the game of golf itself, and how this affects how the course is played.

“The changes will include the rerouting of 12 holes,” Colligan confirmed. “This is to take advantage of the topography and vegetative features the property has to offer.”

The contractor for the project will be Houston-based Heritage Links.

Construction is scheduled to get underway this November and is the course is likely to reopen in October 2016.
