Tom Doak’s Old Petty layout at Cabot Highlands to preview in 2025

The new Old Petty course at Cabot Highlands in Inverness, Scotland, will open for walking-only preview play in August and September 2025.

Tee times will be made available to golfers who also have a reservation at Cabot Highlands’ Castle Stuart course.

Tom Doak designed and routed Old Petty, with associate Clyde Johnson taking the lead on the project. Agronomist and shaper Chris Haspell, who worked on the original Castle Stuart links, also assisted.

The course’s opening and closing holes have criss-crossing fairways. The second plays past Old Petty Church and the third plays past Castle Stuart. From the fifth, golfers turned inland for the remainder of the front nine. The tenth has the Moray Firth as a backdrop before turning inland and then returning to the tidal estuary on the fourteenth. The penultimate hole is a short par three.

The driving range at Old Petty will also double as a short course, a feature employed successfully at other Cabot venues Cabot Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Canada, and Cabot Citrus Farms in Florida, USA.

“We are truly honoured to serve as stewards of this remarkable land and to carry forward the original vision for the property,” said Ben Cowan-Dewar, co-founder and CEO of Cabot.

“Our goal is to create unforgettable memories in magical places, and there are few places in the world more awe-inspiring than the Scottish Highlands.

“Old Petty, guided by the vision of Tom Doak, will be a remarkable addition to the Highlands’ golfing landscape. Its design will harmonise beautifully with the natural surroundings, truly elevating the land it occupies.”
