Crooked Tree course reopens following Arthur Hills firm’s redesign

The course at Crooked Tree Golf Club has reopened for play following a redesign carried out by Arthur Hills’ design firm.

The project began in August 2013 and saw holes 16, 17 and 18 redesigned by Hills and associates.

The greens on all three holes were remodeled, and those on holes 16 and 17 were relocated. A slope on the sixteenth fairway was decreased and the fairways of holes 17 and 18 were reshaped. Extensive bunker work was also carried out on the eighteenth hole.

The Crooked Tree course, which is located in Petoskey, Michigan, was originally designed by Harry Bowers and opened in 1994.

The course is owned by Boyne Golf, and the recent project is the third time Arthur Hills’ firm has worked with the company. The two have Boyne Highlands Resort worked together on projects at the Bay Harbor Golf Club and the Arthur Hills course at the Boyne Highlands Resort, both of which are also located in Michigan.

“This project was not without its fair share of challenges with heavy rains both in the fall and the spring that forced us to redo work several times over, but we couldn’t be happier with the final product,” said Bernie Friedrich, Boyne Resorts’ senior vice president of golf and retail. “It’s always an honour to work with Mr. Hills and his mark on this course will leave golfers wanting to play it again and again.”
