Blume reveals plans for renovation of second nine at Sugar Creek Country Club

Comprehensive plans for a US$2.5 million renovation project for nine holes at the Sugar Creek Country Club have been presented to the public.

Located near Houston, Texas, Sugar Creek is home to 27 holes of golf, all originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Improvements to the first nine holes, known as the ‘Trent nine’, were completed last October. The firm behind that project, Jeffrey D. Blume Limited, has been hired for the next phase on the ‘Jones nine’, which will take place over the course of the summer.

Based near Houston, Blume’s firm plans to regrade and returf all tees, fairways and greens complexes on the Jones nine, as well as renovate bunkers, improving drainage, enhance the course’s water features and carry out significant tree work.

Blume will break ground on the Jones Nine in May and aims to be finished by September, with the project following a similar schedule to last year’s work on the Trent nine.

“We are excited to begin this next phase of our Strategic Capital Plan as 2014 will be a continuation of our efforts to reinvent Sugar Creek Country Club,” said Gordon Wagner, general manager and CEO of Sugar Creek Country Club. “The response from our membership to last year’s Trent course renovation was extremely positive and we are all looking forward to seeing the upgrades that Jeff has designed for the Jones nine.”

A similar project for the third nine at the club, the ‘Robert nine’, is scheduled for the summer of 2015.
